What is it you do exactly?!

As a creative professional, it can often feel hard to explain exactly what the ‘job’ involves.

The breadth of ideas, skills and training can be unique to each person, and we are experts in taking all our experience and applying it to new challenges to provide new solutions, impactful outcomes, and great art.

I’ve been learning how to do this work professionally since 2007, bringing my guiding values of care, generosity, and integrity to everything I do.

In that time I’ve co-founded two arts and health organisations, directed the work of a theatre company, worked in the NHS, Higher Education, Charities, National Touring Companies and Theatre Venues.

I’ve written plays, hosted scratch nights, created a studio theatre, started a festival, and performed my own shows.

I’ve led countless theatre and creative writing workshops for non-professional artists – most often with people whose diversity and lived experience is marginalised by society and systems.

I’ve taught students, mentored emerging artists, implemented associate artists schemes and seen people grow into their incredible talents.

All of my work is underpinned by a commitment to social justice, a belief in the power of our stories, and the importance of creativity in living life well.

How I describe what I do, often depends on who I’m talking to, the same work can often be given different names depending on who the partner is.

Health, Culture, Education, VCSE – every sector has a different way of understanding and describing what is often very similar work.

I’ve chosen to use the three headings of Performance, Community, Leadership to help you understand more about what I do, the experience I have, and the skills I can bring to your next project.

I’m lucky that I often get to use my creative…
